Tips on how to use Leeve during the Covid-19

The world is in crisis. I don’t think it escaped anyone’s attention. The Leeve team is currently scattered between France and Spain. We therefore have an acute awareness of what the coronavirus can do, and most of all, we know what this means for Leeve and its community. This is why we think it is essential to present you with a few articles, in relation with the current situation, that will, we hope, encourage you to keep on using the Leeve app in the safest way possible.

Before we start, a small disclaimer: some of the precautions written in this article are perhaps already not, or at least not anymore, applicable in some countries. In Spain, or in Italy, for example. It will probably not be the case anymore in France very soon. But what really matters is that we all stay safe and sound. So, please, take care of yourself. And please excuse the sometimes very serious and solemn tone of this article, but it only seems appropriate.

1) Maximize actions on the app as much as you can

Yes, it sounds a bit obvious, but it is the best piece of advice I can give you. And that counts for me too: why do I "PASS" some people? Because I want to improve my German rather than start learning Arabic? But, what if we gave a chance to the people we don’t usually send "MEET" requests? Nothing is so bad that there is not some good in it somewhere; now or never is the time to broaden your horizons. So, send "MEETs", invite people on the app, and if they register with your code you will have even more MEETs"! A virtuous circle is taking shape, don’t you think?

2) Go from meeting for a cup of coffee on a terrace to meeting on video call

Think of alternatives! We are trying to add the possibility of calling face-to-face from the app, to reduce time spent outside and physical contacts as much as possible. In the meantime, we advise you to use Whereby, for example. Very easy to use, it will create a room on the app, and give you a link that you can share with the person you want to talk with. That way, you won’t have to share any personal information, such as your phone number, you email address, your social networks… Safety comes first.

3) Respect preventive actions (please)

If you absolutely want to meet in real life, please, respect preventive actions. Really. If you are not doing it for you, do it for others. Please. The media have already explained at length what the preventive measures are. What we can do to ensure that we stay safe. But, here it is again, because we cannot hear it enough. And because I’m funnier than the media. Prove me wrong.

  • Wash your hands often.

We touch our face at least once per minute. 60 times per hour. Many chances to get ill. Hence the need to have clean hands. And to do that, what do we use? You guessed it, water and soap for 30 seconds. If you don’t feel like counting to 30, sing! The website washyourlyrics allows you to create a poster to help you wash your hands properly. It is free, so don’t hesitate to make yours with your favourite song.

Another solution is alcohol based hand sanitizer (you can also make your poster for gel on https://washyourlyrics.com). But, I have the feeling that it is becoming a rare commodity; you can maybe make your own if you buy the right products. But don’t follow just any protocol, use the one given by the WHO, okay? It is very easy to make! Yes, yes, I made some, because I am paranoid and anxious. I regret nothing.

  • Respect social distances.

Stay at least one meter away from each other, even if you just stumbled across your good ol’ friend Michel, as to not risk contamination. The virus is transmitted by contact: a tiny drop of spit is enough. So say hi from afar. Personally, I think it is the perfect time to reintroduce the Roman salute. You can even throw a nice “Ave Marie” in it, and we’re good. It does have more flair than to salute with kisses.

  • Stay in open spaces.

In many countries nowadays, rallies are limited, or even forbidden. Meeting spaces such as cafés, restaurants, nightclubs are closed. If you really want to meet up, go in open, ventilated spaces with few people; don’t forget to keep your distances.

  • Cough in your elbow.

If you need to cough or sneeze, do it in your elbow. If you don’t think about it and do it in your hand, wash your hands immediately after. If you can, wear a mask and gloves. We cannot be too careful now. Protect yourself and protect others.

4) Use the Leeve Passport

If, to you, traveling rhymes with meeting, you will like the new functionality on Leeve. Because of - or thanks to, depends on the point of view - the covid-19, we are doing everything we can to release the Leeve Passport as quickly as possible. If everything goes according to plan, it should be available next week on the app as we try to take part in the war effort! That is why, during the month in confinement, we will make the Leeve Passport free for all, so that everyone can keep on travelling despite the worldwide paralysis.

The Leeve Passport will allow you to meet people abroad. All you have to do is choose the countries in which you would like to travel, for example, and you will see Leevers from those geographic areas. You will be able to match, talk, and meet with even more international people.

Believe me, we are the first ones to be saddened by this temporary inability to travel, or even to move freely within our home country or city. But, we should never forget that, where our body has its limit, our spirit will never be trapped by borders, confinements or curfews. Don’t let a virus bind you to the walls of your flat, but let it send you wander around the entire world.
